We're home

We're back home, and so happy that all of Rylie's tests came back great so far. The orthopedic appointment on Friday went well, too. It was good to get a professional's take on Rylie's back, hips, and knees. These are three problem areas for Hurler kiddos. Rylie's back is in pretty good shape, but her hips and knees are showing some of the classic Hurler characteristics. Knees tend to turn in or become "knocked" and the hip joint doesn't sit as securely as it would normally. The doctor said we'll wait a few years to do anything, but there may come a point when she will need to have hip and knee surgery to help her bones grow straight. There really isn't anything medically that we can do at this time to try to prevent these issues from happening. The doctor did say some of the kids do develop strong and straight enough joints that surgery is not required. So if you are looking for things to add to your prayer list, please add Rylie's orthopedic development.

Rylie cried for 5 minutes after she had to say good-bye to her friends in Minnesota. I think she is becoming rather social! She is also starting to try different adult foods! Lyle and I can't stop offering her new things. She always refuses to try anything new, but we've been forcing her to try one bite. It takes one of us to hold her down and the other one to put a bite in her mouth. I know. This sounds very mean and severe, but at almost 3 years old, we feel like she needs to at least try some new foods. We tell her she needs to try one bite, and if she hates it, then she can spit it out. More times than not she has been swallowing and then asking for more. She really liked pizza last night (Lyle told her it was a pizza CRACKER), and a hot dog today! We tried watermelon, and she did not like that. But she is continuing to eat corn, and now peas! We are very proud of her for actually eating. It's been such a challenge for so long that I don't know what I'm going to work with her on next if she starts eating well! I guess I can focus more on potty training which has not been going smoothly.

As soon as I get our photos downloaded, we'll post some from our trip.

Also, we're heading to Durango next weekend to see Lyle's cousin Cory and her husband, Kyle. Lyle's parents will be meeting us there and helping us by watching Rylie as we do the Quarter Horse bike ride from Durango to Pergatory. We haven't been to Durango since we moved to Colorado. So we are really looking forward to exploring the southwest part of the state.

Proverbs 3:5–8

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones."
