Busy Summer

Hello out there. Rylie has been very busy this summer with family visiting, a mini family reunion in Boulder, going to KC to visit more family, and now swimming lessons and a little dance class. We head to Missouri in three weeks for another family reunion, so we don't sit still for long! We're behind on some doctor appointments, but we hope to remedy that soon, too. We're still monitoring Rylie's thyroid levels since she continues to either run high or low. It is common for kids her age with thyroid deficiency to not be able to regulate with medicine very easily. We're glad that she is full of energy and growing besides the fact that we rarely get a normal thyroid reading. The doctors are not concerned though, so we aren't really either. Rylie has been eating even more new foods, and you would never guess she had eating problems in the past. I'm very glad we don't deal with that still. She eats anything from fish to steak, but she doesn't like any fruit or ice cream. Funny girl!

Speech therapy has been especially helpful lately. She is speaking in more sentences, although two and three syllable words are still difficult for Rylie. She surprises us all the time though with new big words, and we know it will only be a matter of time until none of us would be able to guess she ever had any speech issues as well.

Rylie's PT worked 12 weeks with her trying to get her to ride a tricycle. The PT thought it would build great muscles for Rylie, so we kept working at it even after the 12 weeks with PT. We are happy to report that Rylie finally took off on her trike last week. She rode all the way around the block for the first time. We are so proud of her hard work. It has paid off. Rylie does have little pedals with velcro straps to help her feet stay on the pedals. She still has a hard time without those pedals. Here's a photo of the pedals. They're from equipmentshop.com in case anyone is interested. They've made all the difference in Rylie learning this new skill.

Our friend Torie is now back home in Colorado. She's at day +152. We're so happy she is back and doing well. Congratulations to Torie's family! We wish Torie a speedy recovery from everything she's gone through. Pretty soon she'll be pedaling around on her trike and swimming and having all the fun that 3-year-olds should have.

It sounds like you guys are having a super-busy summer. But it sounds like FUN! We're so glad that all the work with PT and Speech are paying off. I love the trike pedals. We can't wait until we can get together and Rylie can talk, play, and most of all, EAT! It would be loads of fun to go camping this fall. Maybe September, around Glenwood Springs? We appreciate your family tons, and think about you lots. Thanks for the great posts! And Ride, Rylie, Ride! Love to all of you, Cheryl and Torie

Proverbs 3:5–8

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones."
