Mr. Hickman

The surgery to replace Rylie's Hickman catheter went very well. The only very sad thing is that Rylie knew exactly what was going to happen when the doctors came in their scrubs to take her back to the surgery room. Until that moment she was her happy self, and then she started bawling and kicking. Unfortunately she is no stranger to the process.

The anesthesia they used this time was different than what they've used in the past, and today she actually woke up happy, instead of cranky and out of sorts. It was a huge answer to prayer. They had a hard time with intubation this time (pretty much stuffing a tube down Ry's throat), so her voice is very raspy. If it wasn't so sad, it would be cute!  The nurse reassured me the raspiness is normal and should go away soon.

We're waiting for the home care supply providers to stop by this afternoon with the supplies to take care of Rylie's new tube. We'll have to keep the incision clean and sterile, as well as flush the line with heparin every day. Rylie is scheduled to have her ERT (enzyme replacement therapy) on Monday, and this time they'll have line access so no IVs will be necessary.

Thanks for praying for Rylie's sedation and surgery. We are blessed to have so many calling out to God on Rylie's behalf.

I'm just thrilled to hear that all went well with the surgery today! I bet her throat is a little sore though, so that's no fun! Hope the incision heals well and that she has a better time with this catheter than the last! We continue to lift you all up daily! Thanks for keeping us updated!

Love,
The Wards

Proverbs 3:5–8

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones."
