RMH Week 7

Today we begin our 7th week. It is hard to wait while two other Hurler kids have been here for transplant while we battle to get Rylie admitted. We also met a Hurler kid who is here for his one year post-transplant check-ups. Ironically, his hair is nearly the same shade of red as Rylie's. It is encouraging to see him run around and act like a happy two and a half year old.
Thanks to so many of you who have run to Rylie's aid and are ready to take up her cause. Today, we are reminded that despite an unbelievable chain of events that have prevented Rylie from being admitted and beginning treatment, we are blessed to have so many people working on our behalf. We do remain hopeful something will get resolved tomorrow (sounds like a broken record). While our own battle goes on just to get Rylie started, we ask that you pray for several others here at the RMH. Rylie's friend Chance, who one of the other Hurler kids, will have surgery tomorrow to replace his broken central line. This is very stressful for the parents and not good timing as he is constantly receiving medication and nutrition through his line. He is otherwise doing very well at 38 days post transplant and we pray this will not cause any set backs. Also pray for a 6 year old girl here, her first transplant failed and the family is having to go home to wait until her body can handle the next round of toxins before trying a second transplant. There is another girl here who is very much in need of all our prayers. She is young but yet her life experiences have been terrible. Please pray for her and her family as they work through many issues.

Some observations from today: Life is fragile even when we are healthy. Today's weather reminded me that there are only a certain number of "sunny" days in a year. Take advantage of them.

We're here with you, mentally and physically. Here's hoping that Rylie and Gracie get to fight their Hurler fights together!

Hope the info we gave you can give you some good ammunition. Hope to hear better news from you tomorrow.

Lyle, your comments bring tears to my eyes. How true, there are only so many sunny days. We're praying for you, and for the other children you've met.

My ears are steaming every time I think of the delay in Rylie's treatment.

I wish you all the luck in the world, and am sending sensible, rational, ethical thoughts out into the atmosphere, hoping they will land on the heads of the panel of folks who are rubbing their nickels together while your child waits for life saving treatment.

Gallons of love in your direction, Rylie.

I know I just posted, but I simply can't stop thinking about you guys.

I found a website you have probably already visited (I know you've been going round and round with your insurance company, and that the folks at fairview are much better at this than I am), but if this one got past you, check it out. It's the National Marrow Donor Program site, and it has lots of support and advocacy information, and also offers some financial assistance for folks having insurance trouble.

Hi! We heard you were around but only today had a site to look you up. I'm going to be catching up on some reading here. Praying you guys have some good news today!

During one of our arguments with the insurance company, I actually had 2 different people in two different departments tell me "I understand that is the law, but it is against company policy."

They eventually gave in... praying for you guys and hope to meet you POST TRANSPLANT in June when we come for Lauren's one year check up.

Proverbs 3:5–8

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones."
