Pins and needles

Day +14 (2nd post)

Once again things change pretty fast in the BMT world. Rylie's liver counts on Monday were fine but today her levels were high and she became very jaundiced by mid-morning. This along with her fluid retention had us very scared about the possibility of Veno Occulsive Disease (VOD). VOD is yet another complication that can arise from subjecting the body to intense chemotherapy. This side affect could have devastating results. After two ultrasounds today and many hours of waiting, the doctors are comfortable that Rylie does not have VOD. Thanks be to God. She does have some severe sludge buildup in her gallbladder which could be what is backing up her liver and creating the jaundice appearance. The good news is that jaundice is not a problem for kids Rylie's age. So we are staying the status quo for now and will likely have more ultrasounds in a few days. Rylie labored breathing and congestion was improved today. We pray for a nighttime of similar results. She also received a second transfusion of platelets as her numbers are so low her gums are bleeding at times.

Thanks for all your support. It's days like this when we know so many people are loving and praying for Rylie. God bless and good night.

Lyle

Proverbs 3:5–8

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones."
