Bronchoscopy

Because Rylie's oxygen saturation level is not improving, the pulmonary doctor feels that he needs to do a bronchoscopy. A bronchoscopy is a procedure where the doctor inserts a small scope through the nose and down to the lungs. He should be able to get a good look at the lungs, along with gaining a sample of secretions to test for virus, infection, or other problems. He'd like to do this tomorrow. Rylie will need to be sedated for the procedure. It is very hard to watch Rylie go through another invasive procedure. I always ask the doctors if we can wait to see what happens, but when it comes to BMT patients, they don't take risks. Plus, they've already waited four nights, but Ry's numbers are only getting worse. Poor girl. :(

Good news! We found out that Rylie's adenovirus is losing the battle against her immune system (with the help from the antiviral med she's on). The copies of the virus has decreased significantly. We take every reason to rejoice that we can get! Another bit of good news is that little Miss Rylie decided she could take some steps on her own today. She'll be trotting across the room again in no time. We can't wait to get her out of the hospital for good, because every time we take her out of her room, she becomes so alive and active. It's very encouraging to see. We spent another couple of hours back at our room at the RMH today. She hugged the couch, kicked Lyle's exercise ball, and kissed her stuffed animals. Ahhh . . . too cute.

Thanks for praying for Rylie's procedure tomorrow. Love and knuckles to everyone.

Go, Rylie, go! You can do it, girl! You're so close to getting to be free from those hospital walls! We're praying that all goes well with the bronchoscopy today. I know it's a bummer that she has to be sedated. We're so excited that she's been doing better especially when she's removed from the hospital setting! I'm sure it's hard to be patient now that you are there a couple days longer than you thought. We're praying for all of you!

Love,
The Wards

Proverbs 3:5–8

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones."
