Day +53

Rylie continues to ween on her oxygen requirements. She is still on the hi-flow machine but the level is back down to the same level she was at last Saturday when she was switched from the wall O2 to the high-flow machine. Definitely headed in the right direction. She has been very mellow the last couple of days. Not sure if it is because of the recent battles she has conquered or if she is a little depressed to be back in the hospital. We hope to get some portable O2 and take another walk in the hall today to remind her about life outside this box.

By the way, the pulomologist and infectious disease doctors signed off on Friday saying Rylie was so improved they did not need to continue to visit her. Our BMT team would get them involved again if needed. And as some people have asked, the NPO status for Rylie was lifted several days ago. Rylie is free to eat and drink on her own. All she really wants is water, but she is having a hard time keeping it down.

Rylie's counts took a dip yesterday but recovered nicely today: 8.0 WBC and 5.4 ANC. Rylie's hemoglobin and platelets have been hanging in there too. She hasn't had any blood or platelet transfusions in over a week!

Rylie's primary doctor here, Dr. Orchard, starts his rotation on the unit floor tomorrow. We are glad he will be here to see Rylie. The current thinking is to continue to ween the oxygen and diuretics over the next few days so Rylie can be discharged again.

Whoohoo is right!! I remember your telling us that Rylie entered the hospital with a WBC of 8.2 SO a WBC back to 8.0 is pretty dern good!

Proverbs 3:5–8

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones."
